October 2010

As I write this, the price on metals is going up. Even when I wasn’t writing, the price was going up. It seems to be a theme that’s been in motion for over two years.

A year ago, prices were $18.18 Sterling Silver and 1140.00 Gold. Today, and ounce of silver is $24.42 and gold is $1367.50, an all-time high.

I don’t increase my jewelry or findings prices with the market until an items sells – which means that older items are still at older prices. Of course, as I replace items, new prices will reflect the current market.

To offset rising costs, I’m incorporating more copper and quality plated findings into my designs. I’m working with big chunky chains — as well as layers of smaller chains — that I couldn’t afford in sterling and gold-filled. The results are a contemporary, new direction that I hope you’ll love as much as I do!

Since the last newsletter, I’ve added over 100 new pictures to my various websites. If you haven’t browsed in a while, take a look! Lots of new pretties, and lots more coming up! If you need special orders for the holidays, please write as I’m always happy to work on your designs.

For my findings customers, I now carry pierced ear findings in nickel-free, lead-free gunmetal, silver & gold plate, and antique brass. I also have NF - LF clip-screws in gunmetal and antique brass, and clips in solid copper. I’ll be increasing my inventory in these finishes throughout the coming year. I’m so glad I found this supplier. Not only do they have great product, but I was getting really, really, tired of antiquing everything myself.

October’s birthstone is opal. Opal promotes emotional balance, releases tension, and stabilizes mood swings. It also magnifies the individual’s existing qualities. 4th chakra.

I carry laboratory-grown opals. They are "grown" in a laboratory using the exact same chemical composition as real (from the ground) opals. How does this differ from "imitation opal?" Imitation opal can be made of anything, and not necessarily of the same chemical formula as real opal.

They’re also gorgeous, and one of my best sellers at craft fairs. I have a lot of new designs at http://meredithbead-ivil.tripod.com/id24.html

In honor of October being Breast Cancer Awareness month, I’m offering free shipping on all pink ribbon jewelry. That means if you order any pink ribbon items, the whole order ships free.

I’m also offering $5 off any order of $15 or more through the end of October if you mention this newsletter. If you buy through Etsy, I’ll refund the difference through Paypal.

Halloween candy goes on sale November 1, but it still has as many calories.

Enjoy the autumn!
